Course Description
This class will require students to use reasoning about multiplication and division to solve ratio and rate problems about quantities. Students will have to use the meaning of fractions, the meanings of multiplication and division, and the relationship between multiplication and division to understand and explain why the procedures for dividing fractions make sense. Additionally they will extend their understanding of rational numbers, particularly negative integers, absolute values, and locating points on a coordinate plane. Finally, students will begin to develop their ability to think statistically, using measures of center and variability.
Students will engage in various activities before each lesson in order to discover it's purpose, as the common core standards require more attention to the process than the product.
